Sunday declared Steve Jobs Day in California

The honors that celebrate the life of Apple’s late founder and CEO Steve Jobs continue to be announced. Late on Friday, California’s governor Jerry Brown announced on his Twitter page that he has declared Sunday, October 16 to be Steve Jobs Day in the state. No other information about the declaration was announced. Sunday is also the day that Apple will hold a private memorial service for Jobs at Stanford University. A number of Jobs’ family and friends, along with unnamed but notable residents of the Silicon Valley area of Northern California, are expected to attend.

Also on Sunday, the Discovery cable TV network will show a one hour special, iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World. The special, hosted by Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman of the TV show Mythbusters, will have a number of interviews with people who have had their lives influenced by Jobs and his work. The special will be shown at 8 pm Eastern time

On Friday, many people honored Jobs, who passed away last week at the age of 56, with Black Turtleneck Friday. Those people wore black turtleneck shirts to work as a symbol of their respect to Jobs, who frequently wore such shirts in public, particularly during his famed press events for Apple while introducing a new product like the iPod, iPhone or iMac.

Apple still plans to hold another event to honor Jobs on Wednesday, October 19. That event will be held at Apple’s Cupertino, California campus for its employees only.

Steve Jobs Has Passed Away

Apple’s website announces the sad news that Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs has passed away. Jobs was 56 years old, and had been struggling with complications related to pancreatic cancer over the past several years. Apple leaves the following message on their website in tribute to Jobs:

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.
